Dawn's Story

Dawn was a high school dropout who decided a couple of years ago that she wanted to better herself. She was tired of working at dead end jobs that did not pay well. Since she had received her G.E.D. in 1996, she decided to start taking courses at her local community college. However, the stress of working and being a mother of two young children posed a problem with attending college courses in person.

Dawn discovered that her local community college offered online courses that could be taken at her convenience. These online courses offered her a chance to learn at her own pace during any hour of the day. Dawn made time out of her busy schedule to complete the courses and the rest is history.

Dawn completed four years of college in just two years and will have earned three degrees in only three years. She received her Associate in Arts Degree in 2007, Bachelor of Science (majored in Psychology) in 2008, and is currently working on her Master of Science in Psychology online. Dawn will complete her masters in November of 2009. After which she intends on teaching psychology online. She then plans to begin working on her doctorate in clinical psychology in Fall 2010.

She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society as well as Psi Chi, the honor society for psychology. She was featured in the June 2008 edition of Arizona Parenting, in a nationally televised town hall meeting in 2008 hosted by TV personality Bill Kurtis called A Promise in Jeopardy, in association with Maricopa Community Colleges. In addition, Dawn was also selected by a panel to be one of two student speakers during her commencement at Rio Salado Community College. Rio Salado Community College currently has an enrollment in excess of 13,000 students.

Dawn currently lives in Fountain Hills, Arizona with her husband of 11 years, Brian, and their young two children. She is dedicated to helping others get ahead in life and to inspire them to go back to school.
